The David Lewis School is a non-maintained residential special school for 96 children aged from 5-19 who have epilepsy and related conditions.
The David Lewis School aims to give students the experience of school as a caring, supportive community where there is equal provision for all regardless of sex, race, culture, physical disability or special educational need, so that they can develop a positive attitude towards others.
The David Lewis School is able to cater for students with a range of special educational needs including:
Epilepsy; Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties; Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties; Emotional and Behavioural problems; Challenging Behaviours; Language and Communication disorders; Autistic behaviours.
The David Lewis School is part of the largest multi-disciplinary centre for children and adults with epilepsy in the United Kingdom - The David Lewis Organisation. All staff work as members of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure that all aspects of the care, education and treatment of the children and young people in the School is matched to their needs. Quality standards are high in education, residential care and medical services and all efforts are made to ensure that the children and young people get the best provision possible. Parental involvement is actively encouraged and parents are viewed as partners within the multi-disciplinary team.
The provision of services is co-ordinated through the student's Individual Education Plan incorporates the Individual Care Plan. Student's progress is monitored and reviewed on a regular basis. Targets are then set to promote each individual student's development.
